EndNote: By hand, or by searching with EndNote

How to use EndNote (for PC and Mac) to organize citations, format papers and create references and bibliographies.

Entering References by Hand

When you are working in an archive or library with no online catalog, or when you are copying references from books, you will need to know how to enter references into EndNote by hand. Watch this online video: Manual Data Entry

Use EndNote to Search Library Catalogs or PubMed

You can use EndNote to search BobCat and other library catalogs directly, by clicking on the "online search" icon (looks like a globe) on the EndNote menu bar. You can also search PubMed (National Libraries of Medicine) and other free databases. If prompted for a username and password from these catalogs or free databases, leave the fields blank and click "Okay". Results will be automatically downloaded to your EndNote Library.

Connection Settings for BobCat

To search NYU Libraries' catalog (Bobcat) from within EndNote, download this file and place in your EndNoteX8\Connections\ folder. Overwrite or delete the existing file.
