Grants and Proposals: Step 3: Writing your proposal

This guide is designed to help you navigate the process of finding and applying for outside funding.

Before you get started...

Once you've determined the type of funding you seek
(Step 1) and found an award for which to apply (Step 2), be sure to read the funders' application requirements very carefully before you get started on your proposal
(Step 3)

  • Do you as an applicant meet the criteria?
  • Does your project or need fall within the guidelines and stipulation(s) for funding?
  • When is the deadline to submit your application?

Sponsored Proposals

If you are submitting a proposal for external funding through NYU's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), be sure to read their document, Principal Investigator's Guide to Preparing and Submitting a Proposal.
