Finding Dissertations

This guide helps you locate NYU, U.S., and international dissertations and theses.

Finding Dissertations from Other Institutions

There are three methods for acquiring or borrowing a dissertation completed at an institution other than New York University.

  1. Dissertations and Theses Global (ProQuest Digital Dissertations)
This database indexes doctoral dissertations in all disciplines which were completed at participating, accredited North American colleges and universities. Some institutions outside of North America, mostly in Great Britain, are included but coverage is not exhaustive. Dissertations added to the database after 1980 contain abstracts. Most dissertations included since 1997 are available in full-text.

  2. Interlibrary Loan
If you are an NYU student, staff or faculty member, you can place a request for a dissertation through our interlibrary loan service and we'll  try to borrow a copy from another institution on your behalf.

  3. Proquest Dissertation Express
You may purchase copies of many North American dissertations (including NYU dissertations) directly from Proquest/UMI. Dissertation authors can order a copy of of their dissertations through this service at a discounted price.
