Do I need a library card to check out books?
Your NYU Card serves as your library card. First time library users need to activate their NYU card at the Circulation desk on the east side of the main lobby in order to take out books, set up an e-shelf, and renew books online.
Does the library have copies of textbooks?
You can search for your textbook by title in BobCat, the online catalog
, in the same way you'd search for any book. Ask for assistance at the Reference Desk on the 1st floor. Note: Bobst Library does not automatically purchase a copy of every textbook assigned for NYU courses.
My instructor said our readings are "on reserve." What does that mean?
Required readings put on course reserve by your professor are located at the Reserve Desk on LL2 of Bobst Library. Use the "Course Reserves" tab in BobCat
to get a call number. Most items have a 2-hour loan. Music and media reserves are kept at the Avery Fisher Center for Music & Media on the 2nd floor of Bobst.
I'm supposed to use primary sources in my paper. Where can I find them?
Primary sources are materials that contain direct evidence, first-hand testimony, or an eyewitness account of a topic or event under investigation. They are the raw data of research. Examples include diaries, letters, photographs and many other sources. See the Primary Sources Research Guide

How do I configure my laptop to get WiFi in the library?

Can I connect to e-journals and e-books when I'm off-campus?
To get to the Library's subscription databases, e-journals and e-books when you are off-campus, you will automatically be asked to log in to the NYU EZProxy Server using your NYU NetID and password, the same ones you use for NYUHome. If you are having trouble connecting, it may be because your NetID has not been activated. More information about connecting from off-campus
How do I print articles, etc. in Bobst Library?
Network printing is available from every Bobst Library Computer and laptop. NYU students can use their NYU ITS Print grant in Bobst. More information

What are the policies for food, cellphones, and noise?
Small snacks and covered beverages are permitted except at computer workstations and designated areas. Open meals and messy or aromatic foods are only permitted in the Snack Lounge on Lower Level 1. Please silence cell phones and keep conversations on balconies, atrium, lower level corridors and snack lounge.

Where are the best places for quiet study?
The north reading rooms on floors 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are designated for silent study. The "wood room" adjacent to the snack lounge on LL1 is a quiet study area. Study carrels on the inner perimeter of the upper floors tend to be quiet. In general, the upper floors (1-10) tend to be more quiet than the two lower levels.
How do I reserve a group study room?
Group study rooms (LL1 and LL2) and individual study rooms (LL2 only) may be reserved in advance for use by NYU students, staff and faculty. There are also a number of rooms that are non-reservable, and open to first-come, first-use. More information about group study rooms

Can I rent a locker?
Lockers may be rented from the Library Privileges Office in the outer lobby of Bobst, east side. (212-998-2550). See more details about library lockers.
Are there student jobs in the library?

. You can also take the express elevator to the 11th floor of Bobst and take a left when you exit the elevator. Ask to see the listing of student jobs at the Library Administration counter.
