This guide provides information and guidance for researchers interested in conducting qualitative data analysis.

Instructions for Multiple Users and Research Teams

***PLEASE PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO SETTING UP YOUR QDA PROJECT BEFORE  YOU BEGIN TO CODE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO MERGE FILES, HAVE MULTIPLE CODERS ON A PROJECT, OR CONDUCT INTER-RATER RELIABILITY.

MULTIPLE USERS IN ATLAS _ FOR TEAMS WORKING WITH ATLAS 7.5

MERGING IS ONLY POSSIBLE WITH ATLAS.TI WINDOWS

MERGING IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH ATLAS.TI MAC VERSION.

*NEW FEATURES COMING SOON:  (per Atlas Software Developers on Jan 4, 2017) You will notice that some features are not yet available and will be released within the coming months.  For those working in teams we recommend they stay with version 7 until version 8 has the capability to calculate inter-rater reliability. And project exchange between ATLAS.ti Mac and ATLAS.ti 8 is not yet available.  This should be available sometime Summer 2017.

MULTIPLE USERS / SETTING UP A TEAM PROJECT IN ATLAS 8.0

Setting Up A Team Project and Merging in Atlas 8

To set-up a team project, you need to proceed as follows:

1.      One person sets up a Master Project and adds all documents.

2.      This project needs to be saved, EXPORTED and distributed to all team members.

3.      When starting ATLAS.ti, you will be asked to create a user account. If you want to change it later or need to switch user, see the SWITCH USER / USER MANAGEMENT option on the Home Tab.

4.      To merge the sub projects, each team member EXPORTS their project and sends it to the project administrator for merging.

The PROJECT MERGE option is available under FILE in the Backstage area.  All items that are the same will be merge, all items that are different will be added.

*Currently no user-configurable options are available.  According to the Atlas website, further merge options will become available.

***Due to this LIMITATION in the software - Atlas recommends using Atlas Version 7.5 when working with Teams. ****

Check back to the Atlas website for updates:   http://atlasti.com/product/v8-windows/

ATLAS 8.0 TO MAC - **** (POSSIBLE)

MAC TO ATLAS 8.0 --- ( POSSIBLE)

ATLAS 7.5 TO MAC:  CONVERT PROJECT TO ATLAS 8.0 AND THEN FROM ATLAS 8.0 TO MAC

FEATURE STILL TO COME.  See Atlas website for further release information:  http://atlasti.com/product/v8-windows/

MULTIPLE USERS IN NVIVO

Please note that in NVivo you can share files and merge team members work., however if you would like the ability to code simultaneously you will need to buy an alternative NVivo package with "Server Add-On Capabilities."
