Bloomberg Guide: Logging On

Learn how to access and use Bloomberg at NYU Libraries.

How to Log On to the Bloomberg PC and Software at Bobst Library

  1. Log on to Windows using your NYU NetID and Password.
  2. Log on to Bloomberg's software using your personal Bloomberg account. (This is not your NetID. Don't yet have an account? Read on.)
  3. Always log out of the software and log off of the computer after you're done.

‚ÄčLogin directions for non-Bobst terminals vary and are typically posted on or near the terminal. At other terminals, you may still create your own account.

Creating Your Bloomberg Account

Directions:

  1. Select "Create New Login" below the username and password fields on the login screen.
  2. Follow the prompts to set up an account.
  3. Use your personal cell phone number for both your work and mobile number.
  4. Use your NYU email address in the "Corporate Email Address" field. (Non-NYU emails will be rejected.)
  5. Have your mobile phone at the ready, because text is the fastest authentication method. (Hit <GO>/Enter after inputting the validation code to activate the "Next" button, otherwise it will not allow you to advance.)

Tips:

  • Remember your Bloomberg account name and password. Retrieving lost usernames and resetting passwords is not easy.
  • Disused accounts will be deleted after several months, resulting in the loss of any account customizations or saved searches. Bloomberg will send you a courtesy email before the deletion. Simply log on to your account at any NYU terminal to prevent deletion. If your account has been deleted, you may sign up for a new account.
  • Your personal account will work on any NYU-owned terminal, be they in the library or a school, but will not work on terminals at other universities or companies.
  • Contact Bloomberg's helpdesk to transfer a personal account from another university to NYU or vice versa. This is useful if you have heavily customized your account.

Bloomberg Terminal

Bloomberg Terminal monitor and keyboard

Bloomberg must be used at the terminal; there is no remote access. You can recognize the terminal by its distinctive hardware: two monitors and a color-coded keyboard.

Why create a personal account?

  • Save searches, screens, league tables, etc.
  • Customize the interface and dashboards
  • Use the messenger feature under your own name
