A guide to using ABBYY FineReader for text extraction from documents using OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

Editing a User Pattern

Step 3. Adding New Characters to a Language

Without adding more characters, ABBYY FineReader 14 relies on the default characters included in the alphabet of the OCR language.

You can add characters to the language you are training when training by entering new characters as the equivalent to the detected character image. Click on the  Insert Character dialog box (represented by an ellipse dot icon icon in the training window) to open this dialog box. If the character is not found you may need to edit the underlying language used for detection, as will be described in the next section.
