Hack Dibner is BACK! 

NYU's favorite proof-of-concept competition is back! We began with 21 teams with innovative ideas on how to improve NYU Libraries services, all vying for the grand prize of $500. Now it's down to 12 finalist teams preparing to deliver their final pitches. Best of luck to our teams!

Congrats to our 2023 Hack Dibner Finalists! 

We look forward to their final pitches on Friday, December 1 from 4:00 - 6:30 pm in LC400, 5 MetroTech Center.  We'd love to have the teams' supporters join us to cheer on these proposals and vote for Fan Favorite. Walk-ins are welcome, but registrations help us to plan the event.  Register here.

Final Written Proposals are due on November 20th.  Follow the Written Proposal Guidelines and submit to dibner.contest@nyu.edu.

Workshop #1: Project Management Dibner Director and Hack Dibner mentor Sam Putnam got the teams started with tools and tips for project management. Sam emphasized the importance of un-hiding work, breaking tasks into small, manageable pieces, and clearly assigning teammates to tasks.  Here are Sam's slides.  Here is Sam's email: sp6722@nyu.edu 

Workshop #2: Measuring and Evaluating User Experience Librarian for Open Innovation and Hack Dibner mentor, Hebah Emara compelled us think about great UX, frustrating UX, and universal design. User Experience and Contextual Inquiry is a judging category worth 20 points of the total 100; a vital component of Hack Dibner. Here are Hebah's slides.  Here is Hebah's email: he2156@nyu.edu

Workshop #3: Making a Case for Impact and Feasibility Interdisciplinary Science & Technology Librarian and Hack Dibner mentor Lindsay Anderberg explained that in a proof-of-concept competition a strong literature review will provide solid support for the key judging categories of impact and feasibility. Teams were encouraged to look to both the scholarly and popular literature and to draw upon use cases both within libraries and in parallel settings. Here are Lindsay's slides. Here is Lindsay's email: la715@nyu.edu

What is Hack Dibner?

Hack Dibner is an annual fall semester design contest hosted by the NYU Bern Dibner Library. Participants are challenged to develop and present an idea that uses technology to improve user experience at Dibner, or within the greater NYU Libraries system.
