1. Session Goals

  • Learn about key library collections and services, including librarians’ availability for research assistance.
  • Learn how to use online library catalog (BobCat) to identify the availability of library materials, and request books from NYU Libraries
  • Be able to view "My account"
  • Navigate NYUSH Library

    NYU Shanghai Library extends a warm welcome to you. This guide will help you to understand the connection between your academic success and the Library's collections, services, spaces and staff.

    This guide is a starter kit that will help you connect:

    • your everyday research experiences to academic research skills;
    • to key resources every freshman needs to know;
    • to sources that support, refute, contextualize and complicate the arguments you make in your research papers;
    • the research skills you will develop over time with the critical thinking, analysis, and decision-making skills that help you throughout life;
    • to us when you have questions or need help --- via email, chat, or in-person;
    • your academic credibility to the quality, authority, and currency of the sources you use in an ethical manner.

    Librarians are here to help you make these connections and to succeed. No question is too basic to ask!

    My Account

    From library home page,  under "My Accounts" select the link to "My library account." This area allows you to view your account and see what items you have on loan, as well as view holds, bookings, fines and fees.

    Request a Book from NYU Libraries

    • Search for materials you need in “All Collections”

    • On the result page, log into your library account at upper-right corner of the page

    • If an item is available for request, you can do so through the purple request button.

    • Choose NYU Shanghai (China) as your pickup location or request a portion of the item to be scanned and sent to you electronically.

    InterLibrary Loan

    If you need a book, a chapter from a book, or a journal article that NYU does not own, you can request it through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service.

    • To place a request, log into your  Interlibrary Loan (ILL) account

    • Select the type of resources you want to request and fill out the form.

    • You will be notified via e-mail when the item has been received and where it can be picked up.
