Welcome to your Humanities Capstone! This guide is designed to help you navigate library tools and resources as you work on this seminal research project.
Research takes time, so the earlier you start, the better. The library can support you in many ways, including:
Book an appointment with me using my online self-scheduler and we can discuss your research topic in depth. We can explore your research question, how to refine and focus it, or how to break down your topic into manageable components; we can also discuss the best databases for your topic, and I can work with you to develop effective search strategies that utilize our collection of books and databases to the best of their ability
Although you are ultimately responsible for turning in a paper with correct, complete, and properly-formatted citations, I'm here to help you ensure that you can demonstrate the kind of high-quality research & citations that are expected of you.
I can help you set up an account with citation management software, such as Refworks, Zotero, or Endnote. These types of tools can help you collect, store, manage, and access resources for this and other research projects. With integrations with many word-processing systems, these citation management tools can help you speed up the process of developing & correcting your citations.
Although I cannot check your paper citation-by-citations, I can also work with you to navigate citations manuals such as The Modern Languages Association (MLA) Handbooks (you can find the 9th edition in the reference collection) or the Chicago Manual of Style (available in our print collection or online).
NYU Shanghai has a rich collection of books, DVDs, e-books, e-journals, and databases; However, if you need resources for your research project that we don't own in our library, I recommend that you request that title using our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service. You are welcome to contact me, too, for help with the following:
