Many article databases such as LexisNexis and Factiva do not provide access to older content from newspapers. Typically, historical coverage of newspapers titles in databases tends to only extend to the 1980s.
That said, the NYU Libraries does have access to many important historical, international news sources, and some historical international news archives are made freely available online. This page will help you to locate these.
If NYU does not own a book, newspaper, or journal, you can borrow from another library using our Interlibrary Loan Service. Note that you may also borrow microfilm reels of historical newspapers.
Most of these historical, international news databases include digitized ("as printed") PDF versions of the newspaper, while others may contain only the full text. If you don't see the specific country you are searching for represented in these databases, try one of the databases with global coverage.
Irish Newspaper Archive contains full-text searchable digitized Irish newspapers, with issues spanning the 1700s to current day, as well as the Radical & Political Newspapers collection with publications related to the political unrest in Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Newspapers with both local and national scope and circulation are included and new titles and issues added regularly.

Japan Times Archives provides full-text searching and page images of the English-language newspaper Japan Times from 1897-2022 (Dec.). Japan Times is the oldest English language newspaper in Japan. Database includes content for The Japan Advertiser. Founded by an American, the Japan Advertiser served as an essential Western perspective during Japan's aggressive advancement into Asia until the title was absorbed into the Japan Times in November 1940. It is a full image/full text searchable digital archive (1913-1940) and is available alongside the Japan Times Digital Archive.
