Library Resources for ITP: Home

This guide was created for researchers in the Interactive Telecommunications Program.

Search strategies

  • Start simple (1-2 words!), and think critically about the results you're getting
  • Irrelevant results? Try synonyms, or try searching somewhere else
  • Too few results? Add synonyms to your search with OR
    • Ex. (tangible OR haptic)
  • Too many results? Combine concepts with AND
    • Ex. (tangible OR haptic) AND (controller OR interface)

Research strategies

  • Keep track of where you search, and what terms you use
  • Write down new terms you come across (and try searching them, too)
  • Search in lots of different places (e.g,. library catalogs, Google Books, multidisciplinary databases, subject-specific databases...)
  • Look at reference lists and "citing references"
  • Save your best results in one place (Zotero/EndNote/RefWorks)
  • Ask for help

Books

If Bobst or an NYU Consortium Library (New School, Cooper Union, IFA, etc.) does not own a book that you need, you can request it from E-ZBorrow. Your best option for books right now is to search BobCat to see whether we have an online version of something. The library is offering locker pickup for print-only books, but E-ZBorrow and Interlibrary Loan (for stuff we don't own) is not currently available, due to COVID.

Non-books (Articles, proceedings, etc.)

General databases

Subject-specific databases

Worth a shot!
