LibGuides Subject Guide Template

A design template for creating new LibGuides. Add your own Guide description here. Make it descriptive, but short and sweet.

General/Multidisciplinary Databases

General databases contain content from a variety of subject areas and publication types. This will allow you to look at your research from a wide perspective. Be sure to use the search refinements each database may offer including: date, document type, and source type.

Use "Add / Reorder --> Database" to add assets from the library's electronic resources to the guide. Be sure to check if an item is a database asset before adding it as a "Link"

Subject Specific Databases

Unlike the general databases, subject-specific databases generally focus solely on journal articles as a publication type and do not have a broad, multidisciplinary approach. This list contains links to a few of the core databases in a variety of subject areas. For deeper research into a specific subject area, consult the research guide for that area or contact the subject librarian.

Use "Add / Reorder --> Database" to add assets from the library's electronic resources to the guide. Be sure to check if an item is a database asset before adding it as a "Link"

Subject Related Journals

Keeping up with journal literature is the best way to stay up-to-date on the current research trends in the field.  Because SUBJECT is a broad inter-disciplinary field, you may want to target a few journals and set up RSS feeds or alerts for others. Google Scholar is a great place to begin with alerts.

Accessibility note about RSS feeds: They break often and can become "keyboard traps" for individuals that do not use a mouse to navigate through a webpage. They should be used cautiously and judiciously.  If you need support with this, use the LibGuides Working Groups Contact Form (Qualtrics).

Add the "Finding Full Text" box from NYU Libraries' Locker Box

Locating the full text of an article:

  • From a database citation, look for a link to "full text" or an NYU icon:

    NYU Libraries' "get-it" button.

NYU Libraries' "get-it" button to access a resource through the Health Sciences Library.

    NYU Libraries' logo button.

The "get-it" link will display options for the full text if available via NYU's electronic subscriptions.

  • If the journal title (or year of publication) is not available electronically, use the link to search the Library Catalog to locate a hard copy.
  • If the journal title (or year of publication) is not available in the Catalog click on the link to Interlibrary loan to order.
