Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences

Guide to locating OT and Rehabilitation research evidence in books, journal articles, databases, and on the web.

What are Point of Care Tools?

"Point-of-care" (POC) resources provide practitioners with filtered and timely access to high quality evidence to support patient care decisions in the clinical setting.  While designed for clinicians as a resource to make timely decisions, these tools provide a valuable starting point for students seeking overviews, summaries, and pre-appraised evidence for diseases, interventions, patient level education materials, and literature reviews to support evidence synthesis projects, such as "PICO" projects.

Point of Care resources differ from health databases (e.g., PubMed and CINAHL, which provide individual studies that must be evaluated and contextualized). POC syntheses and monographs are kept current and often produced as mobile apps for clinicians' convenience.
