Library Workshops

A guide to workshops provided by NYU Libraries, open to the NYU Community.

About this page

We're committed to helping our students learn the library research skills they need to succeed in their programs.  Our workshops range from learning the basics of research, understanding how to manage your references and citations, learning a new analysis tool, using Google for research, and more!

Below, you'll find handouts, recordings and related resources from our core workshops. We encourage you to use these to refresh you research skills throughout the year.

Core Workshops (Services, Spaces, and Collections)

The Core Workshops are offered each semester and serve to acquaint you with our library services, resources and collections. These are a good starting point.

  • NYU Libraries for Beginners
    • This workshop will help you get comfortable navigating NYU Libraries’ online and physical environment. How do you get books? What about study space? We want to welcome you to our spaces and let you know what to expect. We’ll do a quick walkthrough of the library website and provide an overview of where to look for books, articles, and other research sources. You'll also find out about services and discover the various ways to get research help.
  • Surviving the Stacks: How to Navigate and Use the Physical Collections in Bobst Library
    • In this workshop you will learn about the physical collections in Bobst, how to navigate the stacks and find what it is you're looking for. You will be empowered with a broader understanding of where everything is in the library and how to make it work for you. This workshop will include a guided walking tour of the stacks as well as a classroom tutorial.

  • Where in the World Can I Get This Book?: A Guide to Bobst Library Access Services
    • We all know Bobst Library holds millions of books. But how can you get what you need? Where do you go to check out a book? What do you do if you can’t find a book on the shelf? Where are your required course readings? Join this session to learn more about searching for books and required course readings in our course reserves system, borrowing books at our circulation desk, and requesting books not available at NYU. This session will provide an overview of our library services related to Circulation/Course Reserves, Stacks Collection and Resource Sharing and Delivery Services (RSDS). After taking this workshop, users will be empowered to find all of the material they need, both at Bobst and Beyond.
  • Library Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities
    • Join the Libraries' Accessibility and Accommodations Librarian to learn about what services, programs, and resources are available in the Libraries to students with disabilities.  Visit the Libraries Accessibility Services page for details about what we provide. Registration with the Moses Center for Student Accessibility is NOT required for most of the Libraries services.  Contact lib-accommodations@nyu.edu with any accommodation requests for the workshop.
  • US Research Libraries for International Students
  • Finding Non-English Language Materials at NYU and Beyond
