Data and statistics can come in a variety of file formats. Here are a few:

• *.txt - a text file
• *.csv - a comma-separated values file (can be used with most statistical softwares and Excel)
• *xls or *.xlsx - Microsoft Excel files
• *.sav - an SPSS file
• *.por - a portable SPSS file
• *.dta - a Stata file
• *.xpt - a SAS file
• *.rdata - an R file
