A wide-ranging digital resource presenting a unique insight into interactions between Indigenous Peoples in North America and European colonists from their earliest contact, continuing through the turbulence of the American Civil War, the on-going repercussions of government legislation, right up to the civil rights movement of the mid-twentieth century. This resource contains material from the Newberry Library's extensive Edward E. Ayer Collection. Includes manuscripts, artwork and rare printed books, photographs and newspapers. Browse through a wide range of rare and original documents from treaties, speeches and diaries, to historic maps and travel journals.

History Vault: American Indians and the American West consists of one module on American Indians and the American West from 1809-1971. Several collections focus on the interaction between American Indians and the U.S. government in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Notable 19th Century collections focus on Indian Removal from 1832-1840, the U.S. Army and American Indians from the 1850s-1890s, including detailed coverage of Indian Wars. 20th Century collections include Records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and records from the Major Council Meetings of American Indian Tribes. Events covered include the 1830 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the Dakota War of 1862, the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864, the capture of Geronimo in 1886, and the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890, and the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.

Early Encounters in North America contains 1,482 authors and over 100,000 pages of letters, diaries, memoirs and accounts of early encounters. Material has been indexed so that it can be used in new ways. For example, one can identify all encounters between the French and the Huron between 1650 and 1700.

Indian Claims Insight provides researchers with the opportunity to understand and analyze Native American migration and resettlement throughout U.S. history in the context of U.S. Government Indian removal policies and subsequent actions to address Native American claims.

Indigenous Peoples: North America sources collections from across Canadian and American institutions, providing insight into the cultural, political and social history of Native Peoples from the seventeenth into the twentieth century. Including diverse manuscripts; book collections; newspapers from various tribe and Indian-related organizations; materials such as Bibles, dictionaries and primers in Indigenous languages all enable students' examination of important primary source materials.

This edition of North American Indian Drama contains 256 plays by 49 playwrights. C19: The 19th Century Index provides bibliographic coverage of nineteenth-century books, periodicals, official documents, newspapers and archives from the English-speaking world. This database includes the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals (1824-1900), Poole's Index to Periodical Literature, Palmer's Index to The Times, the Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue, and more.

Ethnographic Sound Archives Online brings together over 2,000 hours of previously unpublished historic field recordings from around the world, along with supporting field notes and ethnographers’ metadata.

Ethnographic Video Online is a resource for the study of human culture, behavior and society around the world. The collection contains over 1,300 hours of video, including ethnographic films, documentaries, select feature films, and previously unpublished fieldwork footage.

Ethnomusicology: Global Field Recordings is produced in collaboration with the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive. It includes thousands of audio field recordings and interviews, educational recordings, film footage, field notebooks, slides, correspondence, and ephemera, documenting musical cultures throughout the world.

Frontier Life: Borderlands, Settlement & Colonial Encounters is a digital collection of primary source documents that provides context for the anglophone world from 1650-1920. Users can discover documents like pamphlets, diaries, letters, and images that reveal the plight of colonizers and indigenous peoples.

ProQuest History Vault first launched in 2011 and consists of manuscript and archival collections digitized in partnership and from a wide variety of archival institutions. Archives Direct is a suite of collections sourced from The National Archives, Kew, the official archive of the United Kingdom. Containing diplomatic correspondence, letters, reports, surveys, material from newspapers, statistical analyses, published pamphlets, ephemera, military papers, profiles of prominent individuals, maps and many other types of document, it consists of the history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries from the British state’s point of view. The Confidential Print series issued by the Foreign and Colonial Offices since c1820 originated out of a need for the Government to preserve all of the most important papers generated by the Foreign and Colonial Offices. Some of these were one page letters or telegrams – others were large volumes or texts of treaties. In this resource one can review documents from the North American Confidential print series from 1824-1961.

Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700. Searchable full text is also available for a subset of the collection.

MEMSO is a resource for the study of Britain and its place in the world during the medieval and early modern period (c. 1100-1800). It combines the key printed sources for English, Irish, Scottish and Colonial history with original manuscripts and the latest web technologies.
