About this Guide

This guide is designed to help students in the gMSW program at NYU Shanghai. It will give you an overview of major text and video databases in Social Work, and suggest resources for beginning your research using encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, and important journals. For specialized topics in social work, Ask A Librarian, or consult some of the specialized research guides created by Arthur Tannenbaum, who is the librarian for social work at NYU's Bobst Library.

  • Strengths:  Keyword searching within the full text of ebooks

Search tips

Better Searches=Better Results

  • Use the Advanced Search feature
  • Not sure where to start? Try looking for books that are cited in your course readings - what else have those authors written, or what research have they cited?

Searching Course Reserves:

It's easy to search for books that your professor has put on reserve:

  1. Click on the tab above the search box that says Course Reserves
  2. Type in your professor's last name
  3. In the 3rd dropdown menu, select "In Instructor"
