The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) is a healthcare delivery system and provides medical, mental health and substance abuse services through its 11 acute care hospitals, four skilled nursing facilities, six large diagnostic and treatment centers and more than 70 community based clinics.

From 1998 to 2005, the Fund's Health Care in New York City Program worked to improve coverage and access to care for the city's most vulnerable residents. The program informed the city's policymakers and health care community by generating information on health insurance, health care utilization, and barriers to care and by supporting innovations in delivering care.

The Health Department provides data and statistics from New Yorkers and uses them to inform the public and health professionals about the health of the City.

The Hunger in America 2010 report, released by Feeding America, reveals that 37 million people receive emergency food assistance at soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters annually throughout the United States — an increase of 46 percent since 2006.

The Food Bank's policy papers use data from our research to inform public policy at the city, state and federal levels. These publications are instrumental to our ongoing efforts to raise hunger awareness and our government relations, which aim to spur action within the legislative and policy communities to decrease food poverty in our city.
