The New York City Department of Education is the largest system of public schools in the United States, serving about 1.1 million students in over 1,700 schools.

The Institute for Education and Social Policy conducts non-partisan scientific research about U.S. education and related social issues.

The Research Alliance is housed at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. We work with DOE and other stakeholders to identify important questions for research and to provide valid and reliable evidence to help solve problems and build capacity in schools throughout NYC.
