Data Services Student Consultant - Qualitative Data Analysis

Position Overview: Data Services Student Consultants work in the Data Services lab on the 5th floor of Bobst Library, providing qualitative research support to the faculty, staff, and students of NYU. Duties include: providing qualitative consultation on a walk-in and appointment basis, leading Data Services instructional tutorials, preparing training documentation, and participating in select projects. This is an On-Campus, Paid Job - $16 to $20/hour. Consultants will be expected to be available for 15-20 hours per week for the term and may continue into the following semester based on performance and eligibility. Performance feedback is communicated to the student consultant throughout the semester, based on project-work and feedback from patron interactions.

Qualifications: 

  • Full-time enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at NYU.
  • Basic knowledge of Qualitative Research Methods as well as desire to learn advanced techniques in software packages supported by Data Services, such as Atlas.ti, NVivo, and MaxQDA.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and public service skills.
  • Adaptable to dynamic work environment and varied requests from patrons.
  • Desire to improve knowledge of research methodologies. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons (student and administrators) with Qualitative Data Analysis Software queries via appointments, walk-ins, and telephone.
  • Assist, update and/or conduct instructional tutorials in Atlas.ti, NVivo, and MaxQDA
  • Gain advanced Qualitative skills
  • Document all client interactions.
  • Perform administrative tasks as directed by Data Services Staff
  • Assist Data Services Staff on Qualitative projects.
  • Promote Qualitative services at NYU.

Data Services Student Consultant - GIS

Position Overview: Data Services Student Consultants work in the Data Services lab on the 5th floor of Bobst Library, providing geospatial data analysis support to the faculty, staff, and students of NYU. Duties include: providing geospatial analysis consultation on a walk-in and appointment basis, leading Data Services instructional tutorials, preparing training documentation, and participating in select projects. This is an On-Campus, Paid Job - $16 to $20/hour, 15-20 hours per week. Consultants will be expected to be available during our staffed hours for the term and may continue into subsequent semesters, based on the performance and eligibility criteria. Performance feedback is communicated to the student consultant throughout the semester, based on project-work and feedback from patron interactions.

  • Basic knowledge of ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro, and desire to learn advanced techniques in GIS as well as other software packages supported by Data Services, such as ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and Carto.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and public service skills. Adaptable to dynamic work environment and varied requests from patrons.
  • Desire to improve knowledge of research methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients/patrons (student, faculty and staff) with GIS and mapping queries via appointments, walk-ins, and telephone.
  • Assist, update and/or conduct instructional tutorials in ArcGIS, QGIS, Carto, etc.
  • Gain advanced GIS skills in support of services provided by Data Services.
  • Document client interactions.
  • Assist with metadata organization and data cleaning.
  • Perform administrative tasks as directed by Data Services Admin.
  • Research and document external resources for spatial datasets.
  • Assist Data Services Staff on internal GIS projects.
  • Promote GIS services at NYU.

Position Overview: Data Services Student Consultants work in the Data Services lab on the 5th floor of Bobst Library, providing survey research support to the faculty, staff, and students of NYU. Duties include: providing survey design consultation on a walk-in and appointment basis, leading Data Services instructional tutorials, preparing training documentation, and participating in select projects. This is an On-Campus, Paid Job - $16 to $20/hour. Consultants will be expected to be available for 10-15 hours per week for the term and may continue into the following semester based on performance and eligibility. Performance feedback is communicated to the student consultant throughout the semester, based on project-work and feedback from patron interactions.

  • Basic knowledge of Survey Design, especially using tools such as Qualtrics, as well as a basic understanding of quantitative analysis of survey results.

  • Desire to improve knowledge of research methodologies. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons (student and administrators) with Survey Design queries via appointments, walk-ins, and telephone.
  • Assist, update and/or conduct instructional tutorials using Qualtrics.
  • Gain advanced Survey Design and Research skills.
  • Document all client interactions.
  • Perform administrative tasks as directed by Data Services Staff
  • Assist Data Services Staff on Survey Design projects.
  • Promote Survey Design services at NYU.
