LGBTQIA+ Pride Month Resource Guide

Founded in 1982 by Louis P. Maletta, the Gay Cable Network was the premiere media chronicler of events and personalities of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community for nearly two decades. GCN programming broadcasts on public access television in New York City and other major cities worldwide.

LGLN was founded in New York City in 1987 to promote lesbian and gay rights in unions and labor solidarity in the gay community. Activities include the Coors Boycott Coalition, publishing Pride at Work, organizing lesbian and gay committees in unions, and resource referral, particularly regarding AIDS in the workplace and domestic partnership benefits.

In 2019, numerous University programs, exhibits, and performances celebrated and commemorated the Stonewall Uprising anniversary in a campaign of events that NYU called Stonewall@50. This collection contains posters and postcards advertising University-wide events for the Stonewall@50 celebrations in 2019, as well as archived versions of the campaign's websites.

The New York Public Library has one of the premier collections of LGBTQ+ history in the world. These collections include the published record of both academic and popular literature, rare books, little magazines, historic newspapers, at least 100,000 volumes, and over 300 archival collections—containing hundreds of thousands of letters, manuscripts, photographs, posters, and other items.

The purpose of the Digital Transgender Archive (DTA) is to increase the accessibility of transgender history by providing an online hub for digitized historical materials, born-digital materials, and information on archival holdings throughout the world.

The LGBTQ+ Studies Web Archive collects and preserves online content which documents LGBTQ+ history, scholarship, and culture in the United States and around the world. Sites include domestic and international non-profit organizations, journalism and news external link, creative works and expressions, historical records, and more. Collection priorities include primary sources, first-hand accounts, coverage of significant events, and essential artifacts of cultural memory. This collection seeks to illuminate LBGTQ+ voices, from margin to center. The sites curated here preserve subjects and perspectives which have been historically underrepresented in Library holdings, are ephemeral in nature, and those which have proven difficult to collect via traditional or print resources.

Creating digital copies of LGBTQ archival resources from the Deep South is a priority for Invisible Histories. These resources can include newspapers, newsletters, reports, audio/visual materials, and photographs. While not everything can and should be digitized, we are working to give our community as many resources as possible so they can experience the diversity of experiences of Queer and Trans people in the South.

The LGBT Community Center National History Archive is a community-based archive that collects, preserves, and makes available to the public the documentation of LGBTQ+ lives and organizations centered in and around New York. Through our collections, we enable the stories and experiences of New York’s LGBTQ+ people to be told with historical depth and understanding.

The Lesbian Herstory Archives is home to the world’s largest collection of materials by and about Lesbians and their communities. The Lesbian Herstory Archives exists to gather and preserve records of Lesbian lives and activities. This ensures future generations will have ready access to materials relevant to their lives.

OutHistory is a public history website that aims to generate, present, and promote high-quality evidence-based LGBTQ historical research for LGBTQ and general audiences. We also work to foster the development and growth of broad and diverse communities of people interested in learning about and producing LGBTQ histories. We are especially interested in under-represented histories and historical research that contributes to positive social change. Most but not all of the current content focuses on the United States and Canada, sometimes in larger transnational contexts.

The LGBTQIA+ Periodical and Ephemera Collection is a repository of items that span a variety of subjects and languages and supports research, teaching, and private study. This collection is comprised of LGBTQIA materials including: periodicals, magazines, ephemera and monographs. The collection is international in scope, largely concentrated from the 1950's to the early 2000's.
