This guide is broken down into tabs, which will help you to locate an EIS, discover resources that support an EIS, and read an example EIS from the Poly Archives.
Finding an EIS: This tab provides multiple databases you can search in order to find an environmental impact statement.
NYC EIS Resources: This tab contains city planning resources, including ZoLa, which will be helpful to you in sorting through data and understanding NYC policies.
MetroTech EIS: This tab contains an example EIS in 3 Volumes. The EIS for MetroTech Center, where you go to school, was written in 1987. You may use this EIS as a reference to understand the kinds of information included in the document and as a written work you can compare to your lived experience in MetroTech.
Helpful Resources in the Poly Archives: Since the 1987 MetroTech EIS is a scan of a photocopy (like many older EISes you will encounter in the databases), the Poly Archives is helpful in providing color photos of the area (which are hard to see in the copy). The archives also contains more information than provided in the EIS about particular motivations before the project, as well as work done prior to the EIS and after construction was completed.
