Remote Instruction Support for NYUClasses: Adding Library Resources

A faculty how-to guide for adding library resources to NYUClasses.

The Library Resources Tool Default Settings

With the "Library Resources" tool, your students can use library resources without having to leave the NYUClasses environment.

Default Settings

By default the "Library Resources" link for your NYUClasses course site will take students to An Introduction to Library Resources: Connect and Learn. This is a general library guide.  (**Please note, some courses may have a subject specific guide embedded in their course as part of a Library pilot to integrate more course specific library resources, but this is not a universal function.)

If you prefer, you can change the link in your NYUClasses course site to a subject-specific library guide.

Change the Library Resource Tool to a "Subject-specific" Guide

Research Guides, created and maintained by subject specialist librarians, contain lists of discipline-specific library resources.

These guides point users to relevant databases, reference books, search strategies, and links to external scholarly resources.

Steps for Changing Your Library Resource Tool Link

  1. Go to Research Guides and choose a broad subject area.
  2. Navigate to your subject within the broad subject area, and locate a specific research guide you'd prefer to link to.
  3. Identify the Guide's friendly URL, for example, Katy Boss (Librarian for Journalism & Media Studies) Guide: https://guides.nyu.edu/journalism
  4. Paste the URL into NYU Classes by editing the NYU Libraries Link in NYU Classes, or
  5. Contact your subject specialist librarian for help embedding that research guide URL into your course page.

Adding Your Subject Librarian's Contact Information

Students (and faculty) can contact a subject librarian to set up a one-on-one research consultation.

To add subject librarian contact info to NYUClasses, find your Subject Librarian and add their email address to any area of NYUClasses.

Adding Your Subject Librarian as Course Administrator

  • Contact your Subject Librarian and see how they can help add subject specific resources to your NYUClasses course areas, or provide virtual research office hours.
  • Follow the ITS instructions on how to add an additional administrator to your NYUClasses course.
