Books: Considerations for Searching

When searching for information in books, consider:

  • intended audience
    • scholarly or popular
  • timeliness
    • books usually have a longer publication cycle, so the information can assumed to be current to roughly 6-12 months before the date when the book was published
  • subject
    • books that are located through databases and the library catalog will likely be tagged with keywords and subject headings that refer to the content of the book as a whole; therefore, it is important to think broadly in terms of what kind search terms you use
