Though NYU Manifold is visible to the general public, there are several reasons to register for a Manifold Reader account when navigating through NYU Manifold. For one, certain Reading Groups and access permissions will only be available to you once you have set up a Reader account and been registered by the appropriate administrator. More generally, Reader accounts allow people to engage with Texts by saving collections, highlighting passages, and contributing annotations. These features enable Readers to transition from passive reading to engagement with the Texts using the full range of Features that Manifold offers.
A helpful reminder: you can only annotate with a registered Reader account; go to the Getting Started in Manifold LibGuide and follow “Setting up a Reader account” to reach this step. To learn how to embed a Resource in a Text as an annotation, see “Placing Resources” under “Adding Content.”
This section will provide a basic introduction to Reading and annotation capabilities in Manifold. For further documentation on Reader options in Manifold, we recommend the Manifold Documentation on Reading in Manifold.
To start interacting with the Text, highlight a passage with your cursor and a pop-up box will appear with four options to click: Share, Annotate, Highlight, and Current Reading Group. Clicking on each of these selections offer unique features in turn:
In the upper right hand corner of the screen, you will see five icons that allow you to control the look and feel of the Text in the Manifold reading interface and manage your account.
