UltraViolet

How to use NYU Libraries' repository to make your research materials widely available and citeable.

How to Deposit

To deposit your materials into UltraViolet:

  1. Fill out some information about your materials via this form. You can see what we ask of you in this FAQ entry: https://library.answers.nyu.edu/faq/394001.

    • You must be able to login with your NYU netID and password in order to access this form and begin a deposit.

  2. A member of the UltraViolet service team will reach out to you with a link where you can upload the files associated with your deposit.

  3. You will upload your files via the link given and the UltraViolet service team will go over your deposit to make sure that all necessary factors have been addressed. We are using Globus for transferring files. Specific instructions on how to upload materials with Globus can be found via this document.

  4. We will curate the deposit & may ask you for some changes to your files and metadata, but only in order to enhance re-usability and understandability of your files to others (enhancing potential use!).

  5. You will get an email with a link to a draft record in UltraViolet for you to approve or ask for changes.

  6. Once approved, the deposit will be live in UltraViolet!

Please contact the service team at uv@nyu.edu with any questions you may have during this process that are not addressed on the FAQ page.

Preparing your materials for deposit

The UltraViolet service team follows the CURATE(D) model for curating all deposits, which means we will be opening your files, trying to run your code, etc. to make sure that all deposits receive consistent treatment in service of enhancing overall re-usability.

If you would like to see how we will curate specific types of files, you can generally refer to the Data Curation Network curation primers, which are peer-reviewed, living documents we use as a reference to curate research materials. These primers can also be used by you to prepare your deposit, should you choose.

In general, to make sure that your materials are as understandable as possible, it’s useful to pay attention to the following components when preparing your files for deposit into UltraViolet:

More information about each of these topics can be found on the data management guide.

In addition, before submitting please ensure that your deposited materials do not contain any information that could be used to personally identify and/or harm human or other subjects, and that nothing contains any personal information outside what any human subject agreed to share. If you have one, please include the IRB approved consent form for your study with your deposit.
