Chemistry (New York, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai)

This is a guide for finding books, articles, and data in chemistry. It also includes links to download ChemDraw and other software, and information about using the proxy prefix and bookmarklet for off-campus access.

Are you new to Signals ELN or ChemDraw at NYU?

Current NYU faculty, staff, and students who need access to Signals ELN and/or ChemDraw should submit this request form, and you'll receive a response within 1-2 days.

Downloading ChemDraw software

  1. If you haven't created a Signals ChemDraw account yet, submit the request form. (This process can take 1-2 days.)
  2. After you've been added to the NYU site license and created your account, open a new "private" or "incognito" window of your browser and go to NYU's Signals ChemDraw portal. Log in using your NYU email address and the password you chose when you created your new account.
  3. Scroll down to the “Installers” section, and click on “ChemDraw Installers."
  4. Begin to download and install the ChemDraw Desktop software.
  5. The first time you run the ChemDraw software, you'll be prompted to choose a licensing option. Select "Signals account" and click Continue.
  6. When prompted for the Signals URL, enter this: https://newyorku.signalsresearch2.revvitycloud.com/ Then log in again using your NYU email and the password for your ChemDraw account, and finish the downloading process.
  7. Optional: if you're on a Windows computer, and you need to use Chem3D, ChemDraw for Excel, ChemFinder, ChemFinder for Office, or Chemscript, follow the steps above to download ChemDraw Desktop and make sure you're able to open and use the software. Then, repeat steps 2-3 above, and download and install "ChemDraw applications for Windows" (located at the very bottom of the "ChemDraw Installers" page).

Accessing Signals ELN

  1. Go to NYU's Signals ChemDraw portal and log in using your NYU email address and the password you chose when you created your Signals ELN account. (Don't have an account yet? Submit this request form.)
  2. Access the Signals ELN by clicking on the Signals app.

"End of Life" for previously licensed Signals ELN and ChemDraw at NYU

Signals Notebook Individual Edition and ChemDraw Cloud (both of which NYU Libraries previously licensed and distributed through 12/31/2024) will experience "End of Life" on March 1st, 2025. After March 1st, 2025, access to these accounts and data stored within the platform will no longer be available. All data will be deleted and unrecoverable.

If you want to migrate your data to the Signals Notebook Standard, you will need to export your experiments as a "notebook" file using these instructions: "How to transfer experiments from Signals Notebook Individual Edition to Signals Notebook Standard" Then, submit the Signals ELN and ChemDraw Request Form to request an account for the new site license. When your new account is created, you'll be able to import the files using last page of the instructions above.

It is recommended that users also backup and export all data stored in the application to avoid data loss. If you want to download your data as a backup, follow these instructions: "How to export Notebooks to zip"

If you do not wish to keep your data, or you did not previously sign up for Signals ELN or ChemDraw, you can simply submit the new Signals ELN and ChemDraw Request Form to request an account for the new site license.
