Research Data Management

When you're starting out with a new project, there are some areas you should nail down first before really undertaking your work:

• File formats you're going to use throughout the projects (hint: choose open ones!)
• Storage and backup procedures (hint: follow the 3-2-1 rule)
• Project structure (hint: set a common file naming convention and project folder setup)
• Document your data and code, because human memory is the most fallible thing!
• Determine group roles for RDM activities (if applicable)

These are important to establish when starting out a project because then you can ensure consistency over the course of the project, from all/any group members!
