WIND Guide

Learn how to access and use WIND Terminal at NYU Libraries.

WIND Guide in English

This is a simple guide covering how to navigate the Wind Financial Terminal (henceforth abbreviated as WIND) in our Library. If you have any questions, you can speak to someone at the NYU Shanghai Library desk, or email

On Campus and Online Access

The Wind Terminal is available for NYU Shanghai faculty, staff, and students (including NYU Stern-NYU Shanghai Joint program students) and NYU Study Away Students enrolled at NYU Shanghai.

  1. Please note that only NYU Shanghai students studying away in NYC, AD and other learning centers (not physically in Shanghai for a whole semester) can apply for VCL service. NYU Study Away students in Shanghai will need to visit the academic building to use the Wind terminal in person.
  2. Please understand that you should use Wind only for the purpose of academic research, with the knowledge that for-profit and/or personal uses are forbidden. You can never share full or substantial portions of reports, articles, spreadsheets, datasets, etc. from Wind with anyone outside of NYU Shanghai. That means you cannot share them with your experiential client projects, internships, and current employers.
  3. Each Wind terminal has a download limit through Excel Add-In (also known as API). When the terminal is at its limit, you will see an error message when loading data, and you need to wait for 7 days before it resets. Please remember to be considerate to fellow users – only download what you need or export data from the terminal interface directly which doesn’t count in the download limit of Excel Add-In.

For on-campus access, visit NYU Shanghai Library (5F, North Building at Qiantan Campus).

  1. Visit Financial Terminals Reservation Page to reserve Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 near Library Service Desk. (Wind Terminal 2 has an additional Global Enterprise Module (全球企业库) with data from 企查查.)
  2. Locate the WIND Terminal. Log into Windows with your NYU NetID.
  3. Open the Wind Financial Terminal application. Look for its red icon on the desktop.
  4. Business faculty and students can access the terminal purchased by Business Department in Room S851 (Opening hours: the same as campus opening hours).

For remote access, follow the steps and tips:

  1. Submit your request to WIND VCL access first through the application link. You will receive a notifying email after IT adds you to Shanghai's VCL list.
  2. Upon receiving an approval email from the library with the online access instruction, visit Wind Terminal Online Access Reservation Page to book a time slot to use WIND on VCL. The maximum booking duration is 120 minutes.
  3. Visit NYU Shanghai VCL to use the terminal. You will be prompted to download and install Citrix for the first time you use NYU Shanghai VCL.
  4. Please do not turn off the WIND VCL computer when you log it out.
