NYU Libraries LibGuides Style Manual

An evolving manual of best practices for creating and maintaining New York University LibGuides. This manual is maintained by the LibGuides Editorial Working Group.

Overall Content Considerations

Make it your goal to create content that is user-centered, focused, clear, and concise. Here are some tips:

  • Avoid causing cognitive overload by keeping things simple.
    • Keep the number of options (pages, boxes, link lists, etc.) to a manageable number.
    • Avoid long words and complex sentences when something simpler can convey the same idea.
    • Break up long paragraphs into smaller sentences.
    • Use bulleted lists to make information easier to process.
  • Use writing for the web best practices.
  • Be sure to use digital accessibility best practices.
