Reuse content

  • LibGuides allows you to reuse a variety of content, from pages to boxes to individual content items (links, widget boxes, RSS feeds). Reusing content makes it easier on you by saving you the trouble of creating it from scratch, and easier on me to maintain the system (it only needs to be changed in one place to update).
  • When adding database links to your guide, the original links are stored in the Databases AtoZ list
  • Reuse link assets

Inserting a Box

A box is where you place your content. You can have several boxes on a page.

To insert a box:

  1. Click the "+ Add Box" link in the column where you want to place your box.
  2. Choose whether to "Create New Box" or "Use Existing Box."
  • If you choose "Create New Box" you'll be prompted to:
    1. Give the box a name
    2. Choose a box type (Standard, Tabbed, Gallery, Profile). Most times you will likely to use "Standard." Please note that "Tabbed" and "Gallery" boxes are not entirely A11y compliant, so consult the LGWG or UX for support.
    3. Choose where you want to position the box within the column (i.e. top, bottom, before/after a specific box).
  • If you choose "Use Existing Box" you'll be prompted to:
    1. Select the guide where the existing box resides. (Search on guide name, then choose from resulting drop-down menu.)
    2. Select the specific box you want. (Select from the drop-down menu.)
    3. Decide whether to keep the same name for the box or rename it.
    4. Decide whether you want to map to the box or make your own copy of the box
      • The default option is map to the box. The advantage of mapping to a box is that whenever the box is updated in its original location by its owner, the changes will be reflected in the box on your page. Note that you are not able to edit a mapped box.
      • If you'd rather copy the box, you'll need to scroll down the window to find the check box labeled "Copy." By choosing this option, your box is disconnected from its original source. This that you can edit the information within it, but any edits made by the owner of the original box will not be reflected in your version of the box.
