On Friday, June 18 from 11am - 12pm ET, please join us for a casual and non structured session to be creative together and make zines.
Zines are self published works by an individual or group, very often creative DIY (do-it-yourself) or DIT (do-it-together) centered around a subject the individual or group are interested in (i.e. activism or reproductive health or a favorite band, etc.) or really any, and many topics at once. Generally, they are distributed in small batches and not always available digitally.
Making zines is a fun and relevant way to engage with critical librarianship topics. Zines allow for a multiplicity of perspectives, voices, and ways of demonstrating what we know and want to share. Critical Librarianship supports community participation and we would like to create a collaborative zine inspired by what you read, learn about, and listen to during the days of Learning.
Please create an original work to contribute to the zine. Suggestions include:
If you create non-digital media, please scan or photograph your work. Export the image as a .jpg (Let us know if you would like help!)
Fill out the DoL DoL Community Zine form and upload your zine files.
Following the June 2021 Days of Learning we will share a digital collaborative zine! Likely some time in July which is International Zine Month!!
If you have any questions or concerns just email us.
There might be an infinite number of ways to make a zine. This video shows how to make one handy and common type: a half-size, staple-bound booklet.
