LGBTQ+ Rights

"Alabama law had outlawed nonprocreative sex, so officials planned to arrest McMillian on sodomy charges." Just Mercy, Chapter 3

Walter McMillian's case, as told in Just Mercy, brings to focus how sex, sexuality, gender roles and stereotypes can make people targets of policing and label them as criminal. These resources explore the effects of the criminal justice system on the LGBT+ communities. Topics include the criminalization and policing of sexuality and gender, discrimination, and issues facing LGBTQ+ people in the carceral system.
